LOCATION: Return to the area surrounding the BP Dog Park
GENERAL CRITERIA:
· Be sure your dog is in the game before beginning session or behavior
· Keep the dog below threshold while increasing distractions
· Loose leash first and foremost
· Be aware where you dog is and adjust criteria accordingly
PLAN:
In the circular area at the top of the hill (on concrete), work on L2 behaviors building Distance:
Down Stay/Sit Stay
And building Duration on the Stand Stay (Stand Stay does not require Distance in L2)
CRITERIA: Chutes and Ladders; begin again when dog makes mistake
Look at That
CRITERIA: To overcome reactivity to any stimuli, click for looking and not reacting.
On the grassy areas and sidewalks adjacent to the Dog Park utilize Step 4 of LEASH: L2.
Introduce "Click and Lick", using a baby food jar size plastic container of pb, pb/cream cheese or canned dog food.
Exchange dogs and continue work Step 4 with the same criteria.
Work with noticeably shorter leashes.
REPORT:
As before, in the vicinity of the Dog Park, there is a steady stream of dogs arriving and departing from every direction. Without exception, the dogs lack of reactivity was noticeably improved and, when reactivity did occur, the recovery was almost instantaneous.
CGC WORK:
As planned, all teams except for Briann and Miller traveled to Coronado after the session ended at 1030. We walked from the parking lot onto North Island NAS with our dogs, where the dogs were tethered to the outside picnic tables and the trainers took turns leaving their dogs and went into the Food Court to purchase lunch, use the restrooms, etc. All dogs were left alone on tie downs for over the requisite 3-minute "Supervised Separation" (Test #10 of the CGC).
Lily was the only dog needing trainer assistance. This was on the second of 2 separations.
Because of the no photography on base restriction, we did not Flip this session.
POST MENTORING SESSION:
After leaving the base, we all moved to the Ferry Landing Marketplace (site of Camp Coronado, July 17th) where we exposed the dogs to the many Distractions found there: pigeons, children playing, bikes, pedi-bikes, strollers, etc. We traded dogs here also.

Everyone seems plagued by the need to bend forward and cueing the STAND with a hand lure. So we decided that we all will re-teach STAND by shaping it.....capturing a Stand, clicking for any backward movement.
