SIT
The dog Sits from a Stand on one cue only from 10' away.
There must be an immediate response to the cue.
This behavior must be done with no food or clicker in the area.

Dog Sits and tays while the trainer walks 20' out,
stays away for 30 seconds,
and comes back.
Appropriate cues.
There will be one mild distraction.

Our goal was to work on the Distance portion of the Sit Stay. But that's NOT what we are training here. This is a perfect example of why we need to have Steps open. And review the CRITERIA before we set our training plan. I was at fault here. I gave the wrong directions.
Watch the video. We weren't teaching Sit Stay. We were teaching Sit: Dog Sits from 10'.
What we should have been doing was putting the dog in a Sit and then, using Chutes & Ladders, begin turning away from him, walking away from him, clicking at the distance and returning to deliver the treat.
Either way it was good training. Cathy, while the click does technically end the behavior, you will get a better result if you wait to deliver the treat until after Rooster sits again( you don't need to ask for the sit just stand and wait for him to sit before releasing the treat for him to eat) He keeps popping up as you return and then you deliver the treat with him standing ( unless you are asking for the stand and I can't hear it) If you continue to practice walking up to him to deliver the treat and accept him standing he may develop the habit of popping up as he is approached. Just a suggestion.
