TRICK: LEVEL THREE
Shaping Back
BACK: LEVEL SEVEN
Dog backs up on cue in three different positions - Left Side, Right Side and Front
"Rocking" forward and back, just getting the dog to stay with us.
Setting Factors established by position of dog and trainer.
1. Click for moving with trainer, either direction.
2. Moving with trainer. Click for backward motion only.
Lily was initially taught the BACK behavior as described in TRICK: L2
It is now just a default part of LL and/or SDW and is rarely cued in this position.
Cathy has not begun teaching the BACK behavior to Rooster.
Notice how trainer's body position affects the dog's response.
Notice how the location of the treat delivery affects the dog's response.
Notice the timing of the click. Click for motion. The coach was doing the clicking.
Nadador has a lovely BACK behavior when standing in front of Jan.
Jan taught this behavior to him in his "other life", before Jan was acquainted with FD
Tendency is to move too far (ask for too much) initially. In this case the goal of "rocking" forward and back, of "shuffling" instead of stepping is difficult for both trainers. Remaining in a "shaping" mindset...and rewarding for any backward motion.
