MENTORING SESSION AGENDA: 12/21/10

WORKING STEPS
Levels 4 and above

Public exposure w/FD Trainers and Training Advisor (supervised and non-supervised)
V/NV

In order to work in public, a dog must be trained in public.

In order to safely and dependably work for multiple handlers, a dog must be trained to work for multiple handlers. Multiple TRAINING handlers teach the dogs that there is always a possibility of reinforcement for correct behavior.

In order to work for another handler while her trainer is in proximity, a dog must be trained to work with other TRAINING handlers with her trainer in proximity.

LOCATION: classroom; MAH
  • In case of rain or if rain threatens, we will meet at Lowe's/Oceanside

PLAN

For the first half of our Tuesday session, we will review all L3 behaviors on the "no clicker/no treats" list. PURPOSE: be sure we all thoroughly understand the concept of TEACHING "no clicker/no treats".

Then we will work on vpa behaviors:
  • TRICK L3 (shaping BACK in front of you) as well as LEFTSIDE: L7 (back on l side/r side);
  • the Swing Finish (Left Side/Right Side L3 and beyond) (Jan, would you bring your pole again?);
  • Change (RIGHT SIDE: L7);
  • SIT/STAY L3.
  • Place (Station) (TARGET: L1)

IF we meet at Lowe's we will take advantage of their rolling carts and substitute DOWNSTAY: L6 for some of the above mentioned behaviors. Bring a non-slip rug of some kind for this exercise.

ARRIVING/DEPARTING mentoring location:
  • Exiting the car: PAT #1 Controlled Unload Out of Vehicle; #2 Approaching the Building #3 Controlled Entry Through a Doorway
  • LEASH: L6 (on right side) no matter which location we train.
  • RIGHT SIDE: L6
Note that all are V behaviors. Please have your dog wearing his harness.

Be sure and take a look at Peggy's flip of the Novice Class last Thursday. So far she has only uploaded the flip of her demonstrating how to teach GTM: L2, but she did a superb job. Step by Step by Step. Look at Beth's calendar entry for that class. EXCELLENT class agenda!
