Introducing RIGHT SIDE: Level 7 (using a BACK cross)

RIGHT SIDE: LEVEL SEVEN
Dog does SDW up a flight of stairs and switches sides on cue, then SDW down the stairs, switching sides again.
Switches are done with a front cross.

Because our dogs are not yet proficient in a Swing Finish (Left Side/Right Side), when working vested in public we need a trained behavior to move them from the left side of our bodies to the right side of our bodies.  At the last clinic, Sue introduced the CHANGE behavior......the Back Cross.

Cathy drops the food lure.  Her hand "lure" becomes an effective hand signal.

In adding the verbal cue, "Change", we re-address how to change a cue.

Then Jan and Nadador take a turn.  Jan is introducing the behavior for the first time.  Cathy and Rooster have been working on the behavior for two days.

Then, after a quick break, we tried it again.

Watch Lily learning this behavior being Lured and then being Shaped.

Right now, we are teaching the very first part of this behavior - off leash and stationary.  Once the dogs have passed it COLD, the trainers will generalize in different locations (BMO).

Then, re-teach from scratch, with the dog leashed.  They will quickly find that the leash itself will "morph" into a cue.  Test it COLD when leashed, generalize inside and outdoors (BMO).

All this before re-teaching the behavior while moving - unleashed and leashed.

This behavior must eventually be performed while moving up and down stairs, so the trainers must also be training SURFACES: Levels 4 and 5 with their dogs.......without adding Change at this point.
